Tuesday, October 30, 2012, will forever linger in the memories of the Ajimobis, their associates, sympathizers, friends, families and indeed, the entire citizens of Oyo State.
On that day, the news of the purported arrest of the wife of the Oyo State Governor, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom gained momentum and it was the only news in circulation. First published by an online news agency, Newsleak, being managed by one faceless Afolabi Freedom David, and later by 247uReports being managed by one Ikenna Ellis.
Though, a critical look at the story would have given it out as completely false and unfounded, however, before one could say Jack Robinson, it had spread like wild fire and everybody had started feasting on it.
To show their amateurish and unprofessional manner, Afolabi Freedom David and Ikenna Ellis said in the story that $400,000 equaled N500 million. One wonders who their Mathematics teachers were in school, that they could not understand simple Arithmetic.
There is no doubting the fact that the duo are nothing but enemies of progress and good governance. They allowed themselves to be used and for whatever reason, decided to throw decorum to the winds and allow primordial sentiments to becloud their sense of reasoning in the dissemination of such false information.
In an ideal situation, Afolabi David and Ikenna Ellis should at present be cooling off in jail for criminal libel to serve as deterrent to others with such criminal tendencies. In a saner society, people like them should not be among normal beings as they are rather too dangerous.
Assassinating people's characters should be condemned in strong term and anybody engaging in such act should be dealt with decisively rather than being celebrated.
