THE BIG HOAX?
The weight of the social media came down heavily on the Ajimobis on Tuesday, as news went round on the alleged arrest of the Oyo State First Lady in far away London by the Metropolitan Police.
For public officers, this latest addition to the media has become an albatross. There’s free entry. So free that from any corner of the globe, anyone, friend or foe can contribute just about anything from the profound to the profane.
All over the world, men and women in public glare have increasingly become endangered species. The average person in our world expects scandals in high places. If they fail to materialize, a little ingenuity manufactures one. Soft sells thrive on such, splashing dirt all over their victims.
First, it was Nairaland and later in the day PM News dishing out information on the First Oyo couple.
Strange enough, the governor was sighted in Ibadan on Tuesday and his wife had a telephone interview with the pressmen.
The next day, Wednesday, November 1, Mrs Ajimobi was at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport. Later in the evening, she was at the University College Hospital to see some cancer patients and donated her widow mite for them.
Who then was arrested? Who is running around for bail? The policing system in the UK is totally different from ours. One begin to wonder whether they have changed their ways too in the UK and it is now a norm to allow an arrested individual without immunity to be freed without proper investigation.
There is no doubt that those behind the story goofed. The question begging for an answer is; is this a hatchet job by those interested in Ajimobi’s job in 2015?
